Publication is very important for a researcher. Similarly, lecturers and students are required to publish their research that has been done. With the increasing number of publications, the usefulness of these studies can be more knowledgeable. Nevertheless, there are many errors in writing journals and other scientific papers caused by the lack of Academic Writing dissemination.
In response, Academic Writing workshop by Faculty of Biology by presenting Mr. Daniel Opacki, M.A., an academic professional specialist from USAID University Partnership Program and Georgetown University, USA. Workshop with a topic “Proofreading and Self-Editing for Common Errors in Academic Writing” was held on Friday, 6 November 2015 at 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 pm in the Auditorium of the Faculty of Biology and was attended by many participants from S1 to S3 students, lecturers, as well as alumni of the Faculty of Biology. The enthusiasm of the participants looked good with a variety of questions to the speakers and participants were actively participating in solving the problems given.
This workshop aims to enhance the knowledge in the use of English for academic writing, proofreading and self-editing as well as in improving the quality and quantity of publications of lecturers and students of the Faculty of Biology in the reputable International Journal. It is expected there will be more lecturers and students from the Faculty of Biology who are capable of producing good academic writing and hopefully there will be more research publications in international journals to support the vision of the University of Gadjah Mada as a world class research university.
