Biology Orchid Study Club re-opened the admission for new members to the DIKSAR 10th through Education and Basic Training (DIKSAR) in the theme ” Exploration of Indonesia Orchid”. DIKSAR brings hope that BiOSC members and the student observer of orchid know more, love and preserve the wild orchid of Indonesia. The number of Indonesia wild orchid become the observasion of foreign research make BiOSC rise this theme so as this Indonesia orchid triumphed in its own country. Event admission of new members began from September to November with a series of Biology Festival, Meet and Greet , Eksperia # 1 , Eksperia # 2 , Campus Orchid Exploration , Mini Exploration , Technical Meeting and Field Training.
Biology Festival [ 09.19.2015 ] is a collaboration between BEM Faculty of Biology with study groups in the Faculty of Biology as an introduction phase of series of event. This Festival gives an opportunity to introduce the focus of their study club as its attraction. In this event, booth of BiOSC stand introduced their flagship discussion theme of BiOSC, BiOSC main activity and introduced to wild orchids.
New students who are interested to become a member of BiOSC then follows a series of Meet and Great as a next phase of introduction. Those who have submitted the registration form are then divided into six small groups with a guide who will bridge the information from the committee. In this Meet and Great, candidate members were introduced to existing members of BiOSC and its studies division.
Phase of giving material or Eksperia for initiate members of BiOSC are the first preparation before going on the field. Candidate members were introduced to what it was orchids ranging from terminology to the systematics, exploration and survival technique in the field, to the photographic material and sketches. Big Theme of Training “Exploration of the Indonesian Orchid” drafted in the giving of material Eksperia # 1 and Eksperia # 2. Located in Room IV on October 3, 2015 # 1 Eksperia session attended by Supervisor BiOSC, Dr. Endang Semiarti, M.S., M.Sc. and 42 candidate members BiOSC. This indoor giving of material introduces basic materials about orchids, techniques of photography and orchid illustration techniques using sketch. Then to practice the technique of photography, sketching and identification, the participants brought to the green house of orchid of Faculty of Biology and apply the material that has been directly obtained. Different from Eksperia # 1, Eksperia # 2 introduces material about survival in the field starting from the preparation, packing techniques, survival technique and exploration technique. Participants were introduced to build a bivouac and how to survive if lost. This exploration survival techniques becomes very important because the training course would be held at the end of the wild nature. Additionally in Eksperia # 2 participants are taught about conservation ethics as a code of conduct exploration.
The next phase, Orchids Exploration Campus is the activity to introduce orchids that exist in the Gadjah Mada University . The participants are expected to know the diversity of orchids in the campus environment and implement orchid identification techniques . Then besides orchids Exploration Campus , participants practice techniques of identification, either on Mini Exploration and Nursery visit. Mini Exploration held in the National Park of Mount Merapi , while a visit to Titi Orchid Nursery in Pakem, Sleman, Yogyakarta. In the Mini Exploration, participants are introduced directly to the field of exploration and demanded to know more about orchids in nature and identify it .
The next activity is a preparatory stage before plunging in the field and as the final stage of a series BiOSC activities admission of new members, namely Technical Meeting DIKSAR BiOSC. On Thursday, October 29, 2015 participants BiOSC candidate members are informed about the regulations that must be adhered including conservation ethic, preparation equipment, and preparation of the group and force preparation. After all circuits have been implemented, the culmination phase of the circuit DIKSAR BiOSC, namely Training Courses held in three days started from Friday to Sunday 6-8 November 2015 held at the Village Jatimulyo, Girimulyo District, Kulon Progo Regency. At this stage, candidate members of BiOSC directly explored archid in nature based on material that has been conveyed during the course in DIKSAR. Then on the last day, 42 participants officially inducted into BiOSC Member DIKSAR (AD) X and has been declared to join the big family of BiOSC. This is the starting gate AD X BiOSC members to gain knowledge about orchids, and expected to be able to develop and conserve Indonesia orchid as the wealth of the archipelago.
