Bandung, (12/04/15) Growth in consumption of chicken meat in Indonesia makes the demand for chicken feed soar. It is important to develop methods in determining the quality of meat and feed using biological approaches. GAMA Chicken Research Team Faculty of Biology do innovation by using chicken pectoral muscle as a model for measuring the quality of meat on some feed treatment. Observed Pectoral muscle performance parameters are muscle weight, muscle area, and miofiber diameter on experimental chicken the age of 7 days.
Dr. T. S. S. G. Hendry Saragih, M.P. as chairman INSINAS research team presented the results of research at the Scientific Seminar INSINAS said that good quality of chicken feed will produce pectoral muscles performance data significantly (p <0.05) higher than the poor quality feed. He explained further that the superior feed will spur encourage the proliferation of satellite cells donate the core to become miofiber led to the development of higher pectoral muscle with good quality (Figure 1). Quality meat is meat derived of high quantity miofiber biomass and narrow diameter (Figure 2A), not from the amount of low miofiber and has a wide diameter.
