Program Educational Objective
Program Education Objectives (PEO) of the Program is formulated in line with visions and missions of the University as well as Faculty to attain the 6th level of Indonesian Qualification Framework (IQF) for the bachelor program. The PEO of Study Program of Bachelor in Biology of Faculty of Biology Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is to provide:
- Graduates with a comprehensive scientific education in all biology disciplines.
- Graduates with the ability to pursue any career in biology, particularly in Tropical Biology.
- Graduates with leadership and management skills to provide solutions to Tropical Biology problems.
- Graduates who embrace Pancasila as a base for ethical scientific activities, as well as research, publication and daily conduct.
- Graduates with an intellectual and practical understanding of good science on Tropical Biology to pursue higher education
Program Learning Outcome
Based on The Indonesian Qualification Framework/IQF (Kerangka Kualifikasi Nasional Indonesia/KKNI), Every Graduates of Undergraduate Program of Biology Study Programs would attain these characteristics:
- believe in God Almighty and be able to show religious attitude;
- uphold humanity values in carrying out duty based on religion, morals, and ethics;
- contribute to improving the quality of life in the community and nation, and to the progress of civilization based on Pancasila;
- act as citizens who are proud and love the country, have nationalism and a sense of responsibility to the state and nation;
- respect the diversity of cultures, views, religions, and beliefs, as well as the opinions or original findings of others;
- work together and have social sensitivity and concern for society and the environment;
- obey the law and self-control in community and state life;
- internalize academic values, norms, and ethics;
- show an attitude of responsibility for work in his area of expertise independently;
- internalize the spirit of independence, struggle, and entrepreneurship; and

- identify and analyze problems of management and utilization of biodiversity in the work environment;
- resolve the problem of management and utilization of biodiversity by applying biological principles through the latest technological approaches in the work environment as a basis for making appropriate decisions;
- apply biological science to the scope of everyday life that is beneficial to society; and
- preparing, handling, and managing tropical biodiversity
- able to apply logical, critical, systematic, and innovative thinking in the context of the development or implementation of science and technology that pays attention to and applies the values of humanities in accordance with their fields of expertise;
- able to demonstrate independent, quality and measurable performance;
- able to examine the implications of the development or implementation of science and technology that pay attention to and apply the value of humanities in accordance with their expertise based on rules, procedures and scientific ethics in order to produce solutions, ideas, designs or art critics;
- able to compile a scientific description of the results of the aforementioned study in the form of a thesis or final assignment report, and upload it on the university page;
- able to make decisions appropriately in the context of problem-solving in his field of expertise, based on the results of the analysis of information and data;
- able to maintain and develop networks with counselors, colleagues, colleagues both inside and outside the institution;
- able to be responsible for achieving the results of group work and supervising and evaluating the completion of work assigned to workers who are under their responsibility;
- able to carry out a self-evaluation process against work groups that are under their responsibility, and able to manage to learn independently;
- able to document, store, secure and rediscover data to ensure validity and prevent plagiarism;
- able to adapt, work together, create, contribute and innovate in applying science to community life and to act as global citizens with global insight;
- able to uphold academic integrity in general and prevent the practice of plagiarism;
- able to use information technology in the context of scientific development and implementation of areas of expertise; and
- able to use at least one international language for oral and written communication.
In order to effectively attain the PEO, the PEO values are elaborated into specific Program Learning Outcomes (PLO) which contains expected Skills (S), Knowledge (K) and Competency (C) in detail for each student and graduates of the Faculty of Biology. The Program Learning Outcome of Study Program of Bachelor in Biology are:
ATTITUDE. The graduates of PS-BB is demonstrating ability to:
- A1. acquire an appreciation for all biological disciplines and fundamental biology-relevant knowledge of mathematics and the natural sciences (PLO 11)
- A2. acquire an appreciation for self-improvement and long-life learning, and ability to identify avenues for improvement (PLO 9)
GENERAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL. The graduates of PS-BB is demonstrating excellent knowledge and skill in:
- KS1. have an ability to apply what they have learned in Biology (PLO 1);
- KS2 . demonstrate skills and knowledge of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology in Tropical Biology (PLO 2);
- KS3. demonstrate skills and knowledge of Functional Biology in Tropical Biology (PLO 3)
- KS4. demonstrate skills and knowledge of Environmental Biology and Biodiversity in Tropical Biology (PLO 4).
SPECIFIC SKILLS. The graduates of PS-BB is demonstrating excellent skills in:
- SS1. design and conduct biological research both individually or in a team, and then to analyze as well as to interpret the data and to form conclusions based on it (PLO 5)
- SS2. value and internalize scientific method, scientific rigor, and the importance of good science (PLO 10)
- SS3. communicate and express a fundamental scientific opinion effectively, in both oral and written formats (PLO 8)
COMPETENCE. The graduates of PS-BB have excellent competence in:
- C1. identify problems including safety and environmental issues related to Tropical Biology and to develop scientifically sound solutions to them (PLO 6)
- C2. recognize the importance of professional and ethical responsibility, and a commitment to apply these ethical principles in their research or daily conduct. (PLO 7)
