Celebrating the 60th Anniversary of Faculty of Biology Universitas Gadjah Mada,we organize the International Conference on Biological Science (ICBS 2015). One of the events of ICBS 2015 is Workshop on Molecular Biology. Workshop on Molecular Biology is held at Lab. Of Biochemistry Faculty of Biology Universitas Gadjah Mada in collaboration with Scincewerke, Ltd. This workshop also becomean implementation of Biochemistry Laboratory Information System (SILAB) program.The workshop will be divided in two days: Quantitative PCR (qPCR)and protein analysis (SDS Page and Blotting).
The knowledge on molecular biology from genome to protein level is very important tool to understand the mechanism in biological system. Gene expression can be analyzed in genomic levels using Quantitative PCR (qPCR) and proteomic level using SDS PAGE/western blot. Mastering these basic techniques become ‘a must to do thing’ for a researcher to be able to do research and produce valid data.
qPCR allows more sensitive, specific and reproducible quantitation of nucleic acids. qPCR or previously was named by real-time PCR has revolutionized in the field of molecular diagnostics. This technique is being used in a rapidly expanding number of applications, including molecular biology, microbiology, genetics, diagnostics, clinical laboratories, forensic science, environmental science, food science, hereditary studies, paternity testing, and many other areas of the life sciences.
SDS PAGE is commonly used for routine protein analysis in laboratory. This techniquecan becontinued to blotting. Blotting is one of a technique to transfer protein into a membrane hence we can proceed it for further analysis in western blot method. Western blot provides more sensitive and spesific expression of target protein.
