The Indonesian Student Research Olympiad / Olimpiade Penelitian Siswa Indonesia (OPSI), is one of the routine activities organized by the National Achievement Center, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, Indonesia. This activity aims to develop Indonesian people with creative and innovative characters. Therefore, OPSI is held for Senior High School students and its equivalent education levels to be able to conduct and develop their interests, ideas, and innovative abilities in learning through research activity. Through this activity, students are required to develop critical and creative thinking, as well as scientific skills.
In 2023, one of the schools that have the opportunity to participate in this competition is Pangudi Luhur Yogyakarta High School with team leader Dhimpna Gendhis Wahyu Pawestri with members Vega, school supervisor Anastasia Ratna Dwiyanti, S.Pd., student supervisor Tabitha Andrea Putri (student of Faculty of Veterinary, Universitas Gadjah Mada), as well as supervisor from the Faculty of Biology, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Dr. Ardaning Nuriliani, S.Sc., M.Kes. This team carried out research entitled “Testing the Angiogenesis Effect of Kencana Ungu Leaf Extract (Ruellia tuberosa L.) on the Chorioallantoic Membrane (CAM) of Chicken Egg Embryos in Inhibiting Cancer Cell Growth”. This research was carried out in June – October 2023. Even though the team did not succeed in advancing to the final stage, there were many valuable lessons that the students gained while taking part in this activity, including understanding better how to conduct the research properly and correctly, how to develop teamwork skill, how to communicate effectively, and how to prepare a good and correct scientific report.
