In order to provide an understanding of the crucial role of plant morphology in the field of Agriculture and to offer insights into various fields of Biology-related research, Professor Dr. Ratna Susandarini, M.Sc. from the Faculty of Biology, UGM, was invited to give a guest lecture at the Agricultural Development Polytechnic of Yogyakarta Magelang (Polbangtanyoma). The event, held on October 7, 2023, took place at the Polbangtanyoma campus and was attended by 186 new students of the 2023 intake. The guest lecture was intended for students from three programs: Sustainable Agriculture Extension Program, Horticultural Agribusiness Program, and Seed Technology Program. During the session, Prof. Ratna Susandarini, a Professor in the field of Plant Taxonomy, discussed the topic “The Role of Plant Morphology in Agriculture.” The guest lecture covered plant morphology as a crucial area of Botanical study essential for seed identification, characterization, certification, and the registration of new varieties. The students at Polbangtanyoma showed great enthusiasm in participating in the guest lecture. This was evident in the numerous questions raised by the students in line with the material presented. The representatives from Polbangtanyoma, represented by Asih Farmia, Sp., M.Agr.Sc., expressed hope that this guest lecture would lead to continued collaboration in other academic areas. The guest lecture event is also anticipated to mark the beginning of broader and more formal collaborations between Polbangtanyoma and the Faculty of Biology, UGM.
