The Senate of the Faculty of Biology, UGM, organized an FGD to evaluate the Postgraduate Research Program on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Eastparc Hotel Yogyakarta. This event was held in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Quality Education (SDG 4) and Strong Institutions for Peace, Justice, and Accountability (SDG 16). During this FGD, Prof. Dr. Budi S. Daryono, M.Agr.Sc., the Dean of the Faculty of Biology, delivered a presentation on the Postgraduate Research Program for both the Master’s and PhD programs. Following this, Dr. Bambang Retnoaji, S.Si., M.Sc., the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, and Dr. Eko Agus Suyono, S.Si., M.App.Sc., the Vice Dean for Research, Community Engagement, Cooperation, and Alumni, provided additional information. It is worth noting that the Postgraduate Research Program for the PhD level commenced in 2020, while the program for the Master’s level started in 2022. After the programs have been in operation, it is essential to conduct an evaluation for further development and refinement.
According to Prof. Dr. Suwarno Hadisusanto, S.U., the Chairperson of the Faculty Senate, evaluations are a standard practice and are necessary for progress and for finding solutions to encountered challenges. The FGD began with the speakers presenting information regarding the By Research Program, highlighting the distinctions between the By Research and regular programs, as well as discussing the challenges and obstacles in implementing this program. Subsequently, all participants engaged in discussions, offering responses and posing questions to the speakers during the discussion and formulation session. The formulation was carried out by Commission 1 of the Faculty Senate, resulting in 7 key points as the outcome of the FGD on the Evaluation of the Postgraduate Research Program.
