Yogyakarta, 28 October 2023 – The second day of the 8th International Conference of Biological Science (ICBS) 2023 was held, at the Grand Ballroom of the Eastparc Hotel Yogyakarta. Previously, ICBS had been successfully opened and received 150 articles from the USA, India, Australia, Mexico, Malaysia and Indonesia, and raised 7 topics including biosystematics, functional biology, biomedical, bioinformatics, genetics, bio-nanotechnology and bioengineering.
The plenary session on the second day of ICBS was filled by Prof. Dr. Ratna Susandarini, M.Sc. from the Plant Systematics Laboratory, Faculty of Biology UGM. Prof. Ratna presented material entitled “Contribution of Ethnobotanical Research in Supporting the Green Economy and Sustainable Development Goals in Indonesia”. Prof. Ratna highlighted that Indonesia, with its high plant diversity and ethnic, geographic and cultural diversity, makes Indonesia contribute more to the green economy through ethnobotany. Ethnobotany research has contributed to uncovering resource utilization practices without over-exploitation and providing more social and economic benefits.
The Best Presenter and Best Poster awards were given after all parallel sessions and poster voting took place. Best presenter was awarded to the 5 best presenter representatives from each parallel room. The award was given directly by Dr. Eko Agus Suyono, M.App.Sc. as Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Collaboration and Alumni Affairs Faculty of Biology UGM.
At the end of the conference, Dr. Eko also gave a closing speech and closed the 8th International Conference of Biological Science (ICBS) 2023. “We hope that the insights and knowledge gained during ICBS can be a catalyst for positive change,” said Dr. Eko in his speech, Saturday (28/10). Dr. Eko also invited participants to commit to preserving biodiversity in support of the green economy and climate resilience, in line with the goals of ICBS this year.
The 8th International Conference of Biological Science is expected to become a forum for communication and sharing for researchers to collaborate and innovate to develop biodiversity-based sustainable development. This is in line with contributions to increasing science and inclusive education (SDG 4), especially in developing biodiversity conservation (SDG 14 and 15) and handling climate change (SDG 13) through sustainable partnerships (SDG 17).
