In order to establish cooperation in the academic field and continue the program to admit foreign students from Libya to the Faculty of Biology, Gadjah Mada University, the Faculty of Biology UGM conducted a visit and short meeting with the Libyan Ambassador for Indonesia in Jakarta. This meeting was held on Wednesday 15 November 2023 by the Dean Prof. Dr. Budi Setiadi Daryono, M.Agr.Sc. together with Sukirno, S.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D. at the Libyan Embassy to Indonesia at Jl. Patra Kuningan XII, RT.6/RW.4, Kuningan, Setiabudi District, Jakarta 12950.
On this occasion, His Excellency Ambassador H.E Mr. Zakarya MM El Maghrabi, Mrs. Ahlam S Y Khalifa, and Mr. Abdulhadi M.A. Abourweeshah was pleased to receive the delegation from the Faculty of Biology UGM. Prof. Budi delivered a brief introduction about the Faculty of Biology UGM and our desire to build collaboration in the academic field with Libyan universities, especially to accept students from Libya for further studies at UGM. He said that there were 2 alumni of master’s program students from Libya, namely Mr. Hamzah Saad Ali Al Turki and Mrs. Amna Mohamed Abdulhafith Marie who did very well in the program.
In his speech, H.E Mr. Zakarya MM El Maghrabi said that he agreed to open formal cooperation and would synergize with the Libyan government and universities in Libya. Until now, Libya and Indonesia’s educational cooperation programs which are still limited to the fields of da’wah and Islamic studies. Opportunities for educational collaboration in the field of science will be very interesting and promising.
It is hoped that this discussion will become a bridge to increase the collaboration network between Gadjah Mada University, especially the Faculty of Biology, with universities in Libya. In addition, this collaboration is in line with the Faculty of Biology’s commitment to increasing cooperation in the context of international recognition in accordance with its support for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 17) and improving the quality of inclusive and high-quality education (SDG 4) as well as competing with the best institutions worldwide.
