Then, the graduation report was delivered by the Head of Master in Biology Study Program, Dr.rer.nat. Andhika Puspito Nugroho, S.Si., M.Si.. The III Period of Academic Year 2023/2024 there were 4 graduates for the doctoral program with an average length of study was 4 years and an average GPA was 3.99. For the master program there were 43 graduates with the academic title Master of Science (M.Sc.) with 25 graduates with cumlaude predicates. Up to this period, the Postgraduate program of Biology UGM had graduated 136 doctoral students and 1715 master’s students.

Next, there was a reading of the graduates graduation results. Furthermore, there was a speech by representatives of the graduates Bima Kurniawan, S.Si., M.Sc.. He expressed gratitude and joy as a graduate for having completed his studies at the Faculty of Biology, UGM. The Faculty of Biology has been a home for exploring potential and knowledge. He also expressed his thanks and appreciation to the faculty leadership team for their hard work in striving to become the best faculty, which serves as motivation for students. Gratitude was also extended to the professors, advisors, promoters, and all members of the academic community at the Faculty of Biology, UGM. He also thanked his parents for their prayers and hoped that his graduation would bring them joy. He emphasized that the new degree should serve as a reminder to always be mindful of one’s words and actions and as a motivation to create and contribute. Lastly, he quoted a directive from President Sukarno, saying, “Gadjah Mada is your source. Gadjah Mada is your spring. Gadjah Mada is your water source. Leave Gadjah Mada not to perish in the swamp of inaction or the swamp of self-absorption, but to flow to the sea, aim for the sea, the sea of service to the country and the nation that is rhythmic, undulating, and tumultuous.”

The program continued with a remark from the representative of the parents, Mr. Teguh Parmono Hadi, S.E., M.Si., father of Dany Lesmana, S.Si., M.Sc.. On behalf of the parents, Mr. Teguh remarked that the graduates’ success is not the end of a learning process, for learning starts from the cradle to the grave. He emphasized that the real struggle is how one applies and implements their knowledge in society. He expressed gratitude to the professors and all members of the Faculty of Biology’s academic community for their sacrifice of time, effort, and thought in imparting knowledge and technology to the students. He also apologized if their children have committed any oversights or acts that may have displeased any of you during their time of study.

The ceremony continued with pin awarding as a sign of membership in the Faculty of Biology Family by the Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Collaboration and Alumni Affairs, Dr. Eko Agus Suyono, S.Si., M.App.Sc., represented by graduates Tondy’ Ukasha, S.Pd., M.Sc., and Dr. Endah Sri Palupi, S.Si., M.Sc.. Following that was a speech by the Dean, Prof. Dr. Budi Setiadi Daryono, M.Agr.Sc. He congratulated the graduates and the parents. Not all parents can afford to educate their children to the level of master’s and doctoral programs. He pointed out that out of a population of 280 million, the doctor-to-population ratio is still 1:6500, and for master’s degrees, it’s above 1:4500. Additionally, he expressed gratitude that UGM has achieved global recognition and the Biology master’s program is certified by AUN and ASIIN. For the doctoral program this year, they will apply for ASIIN accreditation. Furthermore, the Faculty of Biology will introduce a new program (the second of its kind globally) in May, June, and July: the Profession of Biodiversity Curator Program with the degree title Bio.cur or Bio.div . Towards the end of the event, graduates presented mementos to the Dean. Before concluding the event, a prayer was recited by Sumarno, S.Si. M.Sc.
