Wednesday, July 17, 2024 – SD N Kebonagung, Kanten, Kebonagung, Imogiri, held a socialization event titled “Introduction to Local Flora and Fauna and Their Potential to Students in the School Environment”. The event aimed to introduce local flora and fauna to first-grade students of SD N Kebonagung, encouraging them to explore their surroundings and participate in the School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS). The event was attended by 25 participants, including first-grade students, The SD N Kebonagung school head, Erni Wahyuningsih, S.Pd. Jas., and the Physical Education Teacher, Mr. Frida Endrawanto, S.Pd. This event was also part of a community service program (KKN) supervised by Nur Indah Septriani, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., a lecturer from the Faculty of Biology UGM.

During the event, students were encouraged to appreciate local natural wealth through various educational and interactive activities. By exploring the area around the school, students learned about different types of flora and fauna in their environment and understood the importance of nature conservation.

This activity supports several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:

– SDG 4: Quality Education – Providing quality environmental education to students early on.
– SDG 13: Climate Action – Raising students’ awareness about the importance of environmental protection to address climate change.
– SDG 15: Life on Land – Promoting the protection, restoration, and sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems and biodiversity.

In her speech, Mrs. Erni Wahyuningsih, S.Pd. Jas., stated, “We hope that through this activity, our students will not only get to know local flora and fauna better but also grow into a generation that cares about and is responsible for environmental conservation.” Meanwhile, Mr. Frida Endrawanto, S.Pd., added, “Exploring the surroundings as part of MPLS is expected to provide enjoyable and meaningful learning experiences for the students.”

It hoped that SD N Kebonagung students would appreciate and protect local natural wealth more and be inspired to continue learning and contributing to environmental conservation.
