The Faculty of Biology at Universitas Gadjah Mada has once again achieved a remarkable milestone at the global level following the release of the QS World University Rankings (WUR) by Subject 2026 by the international higher education ranking agency, QS Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). In the field of Biological Sciences, the Faculty secured the top position in Indonesia and ranked within the 501–550 range globally. This achievement places the Faculty alongside leading international institutions such as University of Innsbruck (Austria), Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (Japan), Louisiana State University (United States), and Aalborg University (Denmark). The result reaffirms UGM’s position as a leading provider of biology education in Indonesia with strong global competitiveness.

The QS WUR ranking is based on five key indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per faculty, h-index citations, and international research network. In 2026, Universitas Gadjah Mada successfully placed 28 subject areas in the QS WUR by Subject, including Biological Sciences.
Notably, the Faculty of Biology UGM excelled in the academic reputation and citations per faculty indicators compared to other institutions in Indonesia. This achievement reflects the active contributions of its academic community in enhancing both the quality and quantity of research, as well as strengthening various international programs in biology, including double degree programs, student exchanges, international summer courses, research collaborations, and joint publications. In addition, the faculty demonstrates strong competitiveness in employer reputation, h-index citations, and international research network, further solidifying its standing at both national and global levels.
Moving forward, the Faculty of Biology UGM is committed to further enhancing its international recognition through impactful research collaborations and publications, as well as expanding its global partnership networks. These efforts are expected to contribute to the advancement of biological sciences in Indonesia while supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in promoting inclusive quality education and strengthening global partnerships (SDG 4 and SDG 17).
