Yogyakarta, September 21, 2026 — The Faculty of Biology, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a Thanksgiving Ceremony for its 71st Anniversary on Monday, September 21, 2026. Carrying the theme “Sustainable Biosynergy, Going Global in Excellence,” this event served as a momentum to express gratitude for the journey of the Faculty of Biology UGM, while strengthening togetherness, honoring service, and awarding appreciation for various achievements and contributions to the advancement of the faculty.
The series of events began with opening remarks by the Dean of the Faculty of Biology at UGM. The program continued with a tumpeng (traditional ceremonial rice cone) cutting ceremony led by the Dean, accompanied by the Chair of the Faculty Senate. Pieces of the tumpeng were presented to Prof. Dr. Eko Agus Suyono, S.Si., M.App.Sc. This ceremony symbolized gratitude and unity in commemorating the 71st Anniversary of the Faculty of Biology UGM.
One of the important agenda items of the event was the presentation of mementos to retirees (purnakarya) as a token of appreciation for their dedication and contributions to the Faculty of Biology UGM. Mementos were presented to Mr. Jumadi, Mr. Ngadi, the family of the late Mrs. Ani Sri Rahayoe, and Mr. Suharsono.
These honors were conferred through various units within the extended family of the Faculty of Biology UGM. KORPAGAMA, IKPB, and Dharma Wanita also presented mementos and handed over items from their respective work units. Jumadi and Ngadi received mementos from their respective units; the family of the late Ani Sri Rahayoe received theirs from the Head of the Animal Systematics Laboratory, while Suharsono received his from the Person-in-Charge of the Faculty of Biology Library, UGM.
The spirit of care and sustainability was also demonstrated through the distribution of educational financial assistance from the Dharma Wanita of the Faculty of Biology UGM to 10 students. The aid was presented by the Chair of Dharma Wanita of the Faculty of Biology UGM, Mrs. Nurpuji Mumpuni, S.Si., M.Kes. Additionally, welfare support was awarded to eight members of the Waste Management Task Force (Tim Satgas Sampah) of the Faculty of Biology UGM in appreciation of their contributions to maintaining cleanliness and environmental management within the faculty.
The event continued with the presentation of awards to academic community members and network partners of the Faculty of Biology UGM who demonstrated outstanding achievements and positive contributions. Four high-achieving students received awards handed over by the relevant Vice Dean. Awards were also presented to four outstanding administrative and educational staff (tenaga kependidikan) to recognize their dedication and performance in supporting higher education operations at the Faculty of Biology UGM.
Recognition was further extended to three inspiring alumni: Dra. Agnes Heratri, M.P.; Senior Commissioner of Police (Ret.) Drs. Putut Tjahjo Widodo, DFM, M.Si.; and Dini Astika Sari, S.Si., M.Biotech. This award served as an acknowledgment of alumni contributions while strengthening ties between the Faculty of Biology UGM and its alum network. The presence of alumni within the Faculty of Biology ecosystem remains essential to building sustainable synergy and broadening the faculty’s positive impact on society.
This event supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through three main pillars. First, SDG 4 (Quality Education) is realized through strengthening the academic environment and empowering students. Second, SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) is reflected in the provision of inclusive access and social support. Lastly, SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) is achieved through close collaboration among the academic community, Dharma Wanita, alumni, retirees, and administrative staff.
