Yogyakarta, 22–23 April 2026. The Faculty of Biology, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), welcomed a benchmarking visit from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Cenderawasih, as part of a joint effort to strengthen higher education quality assurance systems. The activity served as a platform for dialogue and exchange of best practices, reflecting both institutions’ commitment to advancing sustainable quality in education, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).





The benchmarking activity was attended by academic leaders and management representatives from FMIPA Universitas Cenderawasih, led by the Dean, Dr. rer. nat. Herlinde Loisa Ohee, M.Si., along with Yane O. Asnany, M.Sc., Ph.D. (Vice Dean I), Dr. Ervina Indrayani, S.Si., M.Si. (Vice Dean II), Prof. Dr. Lisye Iriana Zebua, M.Si. (Head of Biology Department), Prof. Dr. Suharno, S.Si., M.Si. (Head of Basic Biology Laboratory), Dr. Vita Purnamasari, S.Si., M.Si. (Head of Food Processing Technology Laboratory), and Dr. Puguh Sujarta, M.Si. (Lecturer of the Master’s Program in Biology).
On the first day, discussions focused on international accreditation through ASIIN. The session was opened by the Vice Dean for Finance, Assets, and Human Resources of the Faculty of Biology UGM, Dr. Slamet Widiyanto, M.Sc. The session emphasized the importance of benchmarking as a strategic approach to broadening perspectives and strengthening sustainable quality assurance practices.
The main presentation was delivered by Zuliyati Rohmah, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D.Eng., who provided an overview of ASIIN accreditation, including criteria 1–5. The discussion was further elaborated through the implementation of outcome-based education (OBE), curriculum management, and internal quality assurance systems. The session also included the sharing of best practices and interactive discussions, enabling participants to exchange experiences and insights. In addition, practical experience was shared by Sukirno, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., Head of the Undergraduate Biology Study Program at the Faculty of Biology UGM, regarding the process of applying for ASIIN accreditation. This session provided valuable insights into preparation stages, challenges encountered, and strategies employed to meet international accreditation standards.
On the second day, the focus shifted to laboratory accreditation based on Komite Akreditasi Nasional (KAN), referring to the ISO/IEC 17025 standard. The session was delivered by Prof. Dra. Tuty Arisuryanti, M.Sc., Ph.D., covering laboratory accreditation principles, quality management systems, including SOP development, method validation, quality control, as well as case studies and simulation of the accreditation process. As part of the program, participants also conducted a site visit to the Genetics and Breeding Laboratory of the Faculty of Biology UGM, which has been accredited by KAN, to observe firsthand the implementation of laboratory quality management systems.
Through this benchmarking activity, the Faculty of Biology UGM and FMIPA Universitas Cenderawasih aim to strengthen ongoing collaboration in developing sustainable quality assurance systems. Such synergy among higher education institutions plays a key role in advancing inclusive, high-quality, and globally competitive education.
